Because of the time limitations of the vinyl age, The Singles – The First Ten Years could only fit 23 tracks. But with the CD age came longer playing times, and The Definitive Collection contains a total of 37 tracks: the 23 songs on the old double album and the Polar singles that weren’t included on that package, plus a number of significant singles that weren’t Polar A-sides. Two rare bonus tracks were also added to the track listing: the 1974 single remix of Ring Ring and the 1979 extended US remix of Voulez-Vous.
In 2003, The Definitive Collection was voted one of the 500 greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.
